Carol Krauss is a fine art painter and photographer based at (Emerson) Umbrella Center for the Arts in Concord, Massachusetts and at AVA Gallery in Lebanon, NH. Her journey into art began with black and white photography and slowly morphed into abstract color photography. She then began to combine her photos with encaustic wax first, and then oil and cold wax medium. From straight B&W photography to color abstract painting—she loves to explore new media.
Her paintings and photos have been exhibited at galleries and juried competitions throughout New England including the Bromfield Gallery, AVA Gallery, Photographic Resource Center, Concord Art Association, Griffin Museum, Brush Gallery, Firehouse Center, and Emerson Umbrella, among others.
Carol studied at New England School of Photography in Boston, MA in its workshop program. She has also studied photography with John Sexton, Jonathan Singer, Mac Holbert, Kim Weston, and painting with Dietlind Vander Schaaf, Tracy Spadafora, Helen Shulman, Lia Rothstein, and Rebecca Crowell among others. She was an Assistant Teacher for the Black & White classes at NESOP, taught at the Concord-Carlisle Adult Education program, and continues to teach privately in her Concord studio. She also provides freelance photography and consulting services for artists, galleries, organizations and publications.
More recently, Carol has been moving into mixed media, first combining her photography with encaustic, then adding cold wax painting to her repertoire. From straight B&W photography to color abstract painting—it has been quite a journey.
Carol has an MBA from the Tuck School at Dartmouth College and previously worked as a management consultant. Currently, she consults to nonprofits through Community Consulting Teams of Boston and Social Venture Partners of Boston, as well as serving on nonprofit boards.
When not behind a camera, she can be found rowing, hiking, tap dancing, or on a beer run!
